My son is in KG1 at English School Fahaheel. They decided this year that KG will be from 8am-11:30am. Every other International school has KG from 7:15 - 1pm. Can I complain to the ministry? How?

Its unfair for the kids.  The worst part is they just casually announced the new hours on the first day of school.

Of course you can complain .. but the worse part that you might need to go there by yourself but there is a very high chance they will help you.

Send them to a different school with hours that better suit you?

You cannot find any school after April/May, not even on the waiting list.
Also there is the matter of money, which has already been paid, and won't be returned.

if you had paid say 1000KD because they had said 8am to 1pm and then changed it after you paid, then i think you could get in touch with customer protection.

I paid 2400KD (schools are damn expensive nowadays).  There is no contract.  The hours were 8am-1pm for the past 10 years (at least).  This year, on the first day of school, they announced that since the buses face a lot of traffic, KG hours will be cut to 11:30.  I don't think consumer protection would be able to deal with this.  I'm hoping there is an easy way to contact MoE and file a complaint in a civilized way.

I was informed that some schools have changed their timings temporarily to combat the sudden traffic due to the "back to school" season.

I would suggest that you check with the school if this change in timing is temporary or permanent before you take any action.

All the best to you!
I  hope things work out for you & your son.

I'm sorry, but the Kindergarten timings at ESF have always been 8- 11.30. There is no 'sudden change' this year. Reception timings are 8- 12.30/1 and Year 1- 12 timings are 8- 2.

Perhaps, it's a misunderstanding. My children have been at ESF since the last 8 years and the timings have not changed.

And yet you still kept them there for 8 years!!!  WOW!!!  Do you think its normal, or acceptable on any level, that KG students get 3.5 hours of class per day?  Even the government KG ends at 12:45.  When do the kids have nap time? play time? snack time?

Its also patently false that the timings have been 11:30 for the past 8 years and I have the documents to prove that.

My daughter is now in second grade.  Two years ago she was in KG2 and her class ended at 12:30.  After class the kids watched cartoons until parents came.

That is much more reasonable and acceptable.

im pretty sure im not paying tons of money for my kid to watch cartoons at a very average educational facility

Nothing wrong with the school - I am myself a parent of kids there and can vouch for the fact that the timings mentioned by the enquirer are incorrect.

And Mr. Khaled, they are made to wait in the TV room AFTER school hours because their parents are late. If you'd rather wish kids wait outside in the sun for tardy parents, that is your choice.
