Best way to learn any arts whether it's music or drawing is to learn by yourself. Try small steps by Youtube and Google. When I started playing electric guitar last year I was hopeless and thought I'd never know how. However when I contacted 3 guitarists who were in Kuwait, Canada and U.S. all of them gave me the same answer. Paying for a teacher is not worth it. You are your own master. Learn by searching and looking at videos.

I first started by learning the basics and anatomy of a guitar like frets, fretboard, neck, headstock string names etc...

Then I started learning easy song covers like house of the rising sun by Animals.

Good luck.

You might be correct in some aspects but I will only agree because in Kuwait we don't have a lot of electric guitar teachers; especially if you're looking to learn shred/metal guitar.

If you can find a good teacher it'll help you progress at a much faster rate and, most importantly, you wont develop the bad habits that most self-taught musicians have.

It's always better to have the personal touch of an expert because he'll know what you need work and what you're doing wrong and how best to reach your goals.

As a self-taught electric guitarist I've been in the same shoe as yours. Only been playing for a few months and learning off websites but imagine having Paul Gilbert or joe Satriani as an instructor.

Having a teacher is a lot better than being self-taught. You simply can't recommend YouTube over a professional teacher just because you were self-taught.

You could be much better had you taken private lessons all these years.
